Dhaka pushes for reforms to aid least developed countries

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has called for swift and effective implementation of the Doha Programme of Action (DPOA) to address the escalating challenges faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) amid overlapping global crises.

Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of LDCs held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week at UN Headquarters on Friday, Touhid Hossain emphasized that LDCs are disproportionately affected by economic shocks, climate change, food insecurity, and unsustainable debt burdens.

He stressed that timely and comprehensive execution of the DPOA is essential to building resilience and achieving sustainable development for the world’s most vulnerable nations.

The adviser urged the international community to strengthen its support for LDCs through reforms in the global financial system, enhanced climate financing, and mechanisms that enable irreversible graduation from the LDC category.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to the DPOA, Touhid Hossain said the country stands ready to work with fellow LDCs and international partners to transform the programme’s vision into tangible progress for millions of people.
