Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed that Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and one of the key political figures of the July uprising, be sent abroad for advanced medical treatment.
On Tuesday, Nur’s wife Maria Akter, along with Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan and Senior Joint General Secretary Hasan Al Mamun, met the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna.
Speaking about her husband’s condition, Maria Akter broke down in tears.
She said that Nur had suffered a brain hemorrhage, a fractured nasal bone and injuries to his jaw and spine. She emphasized that he needed to be taken abroad for proper treatment.
Responding immediately, the chief adviser instructed the Ministry of Health to arrange for Nur to be sent abroad for medical care.
“We are all deeply shocked by this incident. We have made every arrangement for his proper treatment. A judicial investigation into the matter is underway,” he said.
Advisers Asif Nazrul (Law), Rizwana Hasan (Environment), and Adilur Rahman Khan (Housing and Public Works) were also present at the meeting.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul later informed that a one-member committee headed by Justice Ali Reza was being formed to investigate the attack.
The related gazette notification will be issued on Wednesday, and the committee will complete its investigation within 15 days.
