Sharmeen Murshid: Govt to deploy quick response team to deal with women repression

Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid said the government will assign a quick response team to deal with the matters of women repression and prevent those crimes on Thursday.

She said this in a meeting of views exchange with the government officials and social leader on the recent incident of rape of a woman at Muradnagar upazila.

The adviser said: “Although the country has strict laws against women and children repression, those types of crimes are not decreasing.”

Terming the repression of women and children as a violation of human rights, the adviser said the government would build an appropriate infrastructure to deal with those matters.

The nature of violence against women and children is changing, she said, adding the criminals are following new approaches to unleash torture against the women and children in the family, workplace, public space and cyber world.

The women are also becoming victims of cyberbullying. So, the civil society organization and the young generation should come forward jointly, along with the government, to stamp out the crime, she said.

Meanwhile, a committee has been formed in Muradnagar Upazila, headed by the UNO, to prevent and deal with the repression of women and children.

The committee will work for preventing women repression and torture from the grassroots level in the Muradnagar upazila, and it will be replicated across the country, the adviser said.

Joint secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Dr Prokash Kanti Chowdhury, officials of Cumilla district administration and Muradnagar Upazila, teachers of different educational institutions, July warriors, and local journalists were present.
