Prof Ali Riaz, vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has said discussions between the commission and political parties are progressing positively and that the commission is working in a neutral and impartial manner.
He made these comments during a media briefing on Tuesday, following the second phase of talks between the commission and various political parties.
Ali added that although the Jamaat-e-Islami did not participate in Tuesday’s dialogue, they are expected to join the discussion on Wednesday.
He said that many parties expressed agreement on increasing the number of reserved seats for women in parliament to 100, though the process for implementing this remains to be determined.
There was also broad consensus on the procedural aspects of appointing the chief justice, while many agreed on the idea of a bicameral legislature, there were also differing opinions, he mentioned.
“It is unrealistic to expect unanimous agreement on every issue or to resolve all matters in a single day,” he noted, expressing hope that, in time, solutions would emerge.
