Finance adviser: Budget offers relief

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Wednesday remarked that there is relief in the proposed budget for FY26.

He made this comment in response to a question from journalists following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat’s Cabinet Division conference room.

The finance adviser said that the 10-day-long Eid holiday will not have any impact on the country's economy or bring it to a standstill.

He said: "There is no scope for stagnation, businessmen will continue operating in their own ways. Bangladesh Bank has said that banks will remain open on certain days in some areas."

Dr Salehuddin added: "Such holidays are even longer in other countries around the world. During Christmas, holidays last for 20 to 25 days. In Nepal, there is a 30-day holiday during Durga Puja. Do their countries stop functioning then? So, our country will keep running.

"We have already announced the budget. Work will proceed according to the overall action plan outlined in the budget."

He further said that feedback on the budget can be provided until June 19, and the budget will be approved in the cabinet meeting on the 22nd.

"We have always said that feedback will continue to come in. It won’t all arrive in one day. Opinions have already started coming in," he said.
