Yunus vows to announce July Charter through political consensus

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday said the July Charter will be announced by reaching consensus with all political parties. 

"We all have gathered here today (Monday) for the welfare of the country...we hope that we will be able to prepare a very beautiful July Charter by reaching consensus with all political parties," he said. 

The chief adviser made the comments while delivering his opening speech at a dialogue of the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy Monday afternoon.

He said the government hopes that it will be able to proclaim the July Charter minimising distance among the political parties. 

Prof Yunus, also the chairman of the commission, said that he is very happy to see that representatives from different political parties joined the dialogue aiming to reach a national consensus. 

National Consensus Commission Vice-chairman Prof Ali Riaz said the commission continues its effort to announce the July Charter in July next as the tenure of the commission will conclude in August of 2025.

"We must succeed in performing the holy responsibility bestowed us," Ali Riaz said. 

The second phase of the National Consensus Commissions dialogue with political parties has been officially inaugurated by the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday, at the Foreign Service Academy.

The Commsion aims to resolve remaining political disputes after meeting 33 parties during its first phase from February 15 to May 19.

Leaders from 28 out of the expected 32 parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizen Party (NCP), BNP, Ganosamhati Andolon and AB Party, have joined the talks.

The National Consensus Commission was established to review and finalize the recommendations submitted by five key reform commissions, which were formed to address issues related to the Constitution, the Judiciary, the Electoral System, Public Administration and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
