A total of 15,393 individuals injured during the July uprising received medical treatment at government and private hospitals and clinics, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said on Tuesday.
Currently, 338 of the injured are still undergoing treatment in hospitals, he told reporters at a media briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy, citing data from the Management Information System (MIS) of the Directorate General of Health Services.
Azad said that 40 July fighters have been sent to Singapore, Thailand, and Russia for advanced medical treatment through the Health Services Division, and 11 more were sent through the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. A total of Tk61.2 crore has been spent on medical expenses so far.
He added that the process of sending another 28 July fighters to Singapore, Thailand, and Turkey for further treatment is currently underway.
Azad also noted that 26 specialist doctors from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Singapore, China, Thailand, Malaysia, and Nepal visited Bangladesh to offer consultations and provided free medical services to the July fighters. Tk35.8 lakh was spent to cover the doctors’ travel expenses.
Regarding the welfare of the families of martyrs and the injured in the July uprising, Azad said that cheques amounting to Tk63 crore have been issued to banks to provide savings certificates worth Tk10 lakh each to 630 families, out of the 834 families of the martyrs.
He mentioned that the process of issuing savings certificates to the remaining families is ongoing, subject to the determination of legal heirs.
