Consensus Commission to resume talks with parties on Saturday

As part of its ongoing series of discussions with political parties, the National Consensus Commission will hold separate meetings with Bangladesh Jasod and Zaker Party on Saturday to discuss reform recommendations.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the meeting with Jasod is scheduled for 10am, followed by a meeting with the Zaker Party at 3pm, with both meetings scheduled to take place at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The Consensus Commission began its dialogue process on March 20 and has so far held talks with six political parties: the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Labour Party, Rastra Sangshaskar Andolan, Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, and Nagorik Oikya.

The commission aims to complete the first round of discussions by the first week of May.

Led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Consensus Commission commenced its work on February 15, 2025.

The Commission identified key recommendations from five major reform commissions—the Constitution Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Electoral System Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Reform Commission—and sought feedback from political parties on these issues.

Subsequently, it sent a set of reform recommendations, in spreadsheet format, to 38 political parties, requesting their specific opinions by March 13.

A total of 32 political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have submitted their respective proposals to the Consensus Commission.
