Submarine Cable Company reduces internet prices

The Submarine Cable Company has reduced the price of all types of internet services by 10%.

This decision was made during the company’s board meeting on Saturday.

As a result, the operational costs for both mobile internet and broadband service providers will decrease.

Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said that the government is actively working to reduce internet costs.

Several initiatives have been undertaken to ensure that people can access the internet at an affordable rate, with a reduction in wholesale prices being one of the key measures.

Consequently, the cost of all bandwidth at the International Gateway (IGW) level will decrease by 10%.

Additionally, discussions are underway to provide Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) facilities at the backbone level for mobile operators, which will reduce transmission costs for telecom companies by 39%.

The special assistant further said: “Discussions have already been held with telecom operators regarding this matter. It is expected that operators will reduce internet prices at the consumer level by up to 10%.”

He also mentioned that by mid-next year, Bangladesh will be connected to the third submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE 6.
