Eight military institutions renamed

Eight institutions under the Navy, Air Force, and Ministry of Defence, previously named after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and individuals associated with her government, have been changed.

The Ministry of Defence issued a notification regarding this on Sunday.

According to the notification, three institutions under the Bangladesh Navy, three under the Air Force, one under the Military Command and Staff College, and one under the Ministry of Defence have had their names cancelled and replaced with new ones.

After the defence adviser -- the chief adviser oversees this ministry -- approved, these institutions were renamed.

BNS Bangabandhu in New Mooring, Chittagong, has been renamed BNS Khalid Bin Walid. BNS Sheikh Mujib in Khilkhet, Namapara, Dhaka, is now BNS Dhaka.

BNS Sheikh Hasina in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar, has been renamed BNS Pekua.

Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu in Kurmitola, Dhaka, is now Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker.

Bangabandhu Aeronautical Center has been renamed Bangladesh Aeronautical Center.

The BAAF Bangabandhu Complex in Jashore is now the BAAF Complex.

Sheikh Hasina Complex in Mirpur Cantonment has been renamed the DSCSC Complex.

Bangabandhu Memorial Museum is now the Defense Museum. 

The notification, signed by Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin, further says that this order will take immediate effect in the public interest.
