Chief Adviser Dr Yunus has instructed relevant officials to reform the country’s labor laws to improve the living standards of millions of workers across various sectors, while maintaining international standards.
This directive was given during a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, ahead of the 353rd session of the International Labour Organization (ILO) scheduled to take place in Geneva from Monday to March 20.
Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the ILO session.
In the meeting, the chief adviser emphasized the importance of positive actions, saying: "We are not here to make excuses."
He further directed officials to ensure insurance coverage and healthcare benefits for workers in Bangladesh’s labor sector.
Lutfey Siddiqi, special envoy to the chief adviser, who joined the meeting online as part of the Bangladesh delegation at the ILO session, remarked that Bangladesh has already made significant progress in the labor sector.
However, he noted that, according to experts, the country has not yet fully achieved its goals.
