DC conference begins from Sunday, no meeting with president this year

The three-day Deputy Commissioner (DC) Conference is set to begin in Dhaka on Sunday. The conference will continue until Tuesday.

A total of 353 proposals will be presented at this year's DC Conference from across the country.

These proposals will be presented by participating DCs and divisional commissioners. This information has been obtained from the Cabinet Division.

According to the Cabinet Division, this year's DC Conference will feature 34 working sessions with various ministries and departments.

These working sessions will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

However, the working session with the Cabinet Division and the concluding session will take place at the newly constructed building of the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat.

The working sessions will be presided over by the secretary of the Cabinet Division, and advisers in charge of the respective ministries will provide directives for the field-level implementation of their ministry’s programs.

The Cabinet Division will hold a press conference on Saturday afternoon to provide further details about the DC Conference.

It has been reported that, in preparation for this year's DC Conference, the Cabinet Division received a total of 1,245 proposals from divisional commissioners and DCs. Among them, 353 proposals have been included in the working papers for discussion at the conference.

Many proposals were excluded from the working papers due to opposition from relevant ministries and departments or because they had already been presented at previous DC conferences.

The conference is scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at 10:30am on Sunday, in the Shapla Hall of the Chief Adviser’s Office.

During the inauguration, there will be an open discussion between the Chief Adviser and the DCs. In the evening, a meeting will be held between the chief adviser and the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association.

Later at night, the DCs and divisional commissioners will attend a dinner with the chief adviser.

On the second day, Monday, apart from the working sessions, the DCs will pay a courtesy visit to the chief justice at the Supreme Court.

This meeting between the chief justice, divisional commissioners, and DCs will take place at the Supreme Court Auditorium.

A document issued by the Supreme Court states that the courtesy meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed and the DCs and Divisional Commissioners will take place on Monday, February 17, from 4:45pm to 5:45pm at the Bangladesh Supreme Court Auditorium.

According to the Cabinet Division, although it is customary, this time, the DCs will not have the opportunity for a courtesy visit with the President at Bangabhaban.

As a result, this year, the DCs and Divisional Commissioners will not meet with President Mohammad Shahabuddin.

It is worth mentioning that the DC Conference is usually held every year to facilitate direct discussions and provide necessary guidance between policymakers and the DCs and divisional commissioners.

Given that this is the first DC Conference under the interim government following the mass uprising on August 5, it is being considered particularly significant.
