Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said that driving licences and fitness certificates will be cancelled if not renewed within the specified time:
He made this statement on Saturday after visiting the BRTA building and attending a road safety discussion in the conference room.
Fouzul Kabir Khan explained, saying: "BRTA will send messages in advance for the renewal of driving licences and fitness certificates. The message will specify the deadline for renewal. If the licence is not renewed by that time, it will be cancelled."
He added: "BRTA officials have been clearly informed that if an accident occurs due to the lack of a vehicle's fitness certificate or a driver's licence, the concerned BRTA staff will be held directly responsible. These deaths will be their responsibility, and legal action will be taken against them."
The adviser also said: "We have developed a matrix outlining what needs to be done to reduce road accidents, and who will do it, how and within what time frame. We will monitor its implementation."
He also mentioned that the 450,000 pending driving licences will be issued by March.
Fouzul Kabir Khan further said: "The process of issuing driving licences and fitness certificates is complex, so we will simplify and make it more effective. The first step is focusing on driver training, and we will make arrangements for that."
