Asif Mahmud: Local govt ministry operations to begin in DSCC from Sunday

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives announced that the official operations of the Ministry of Local Government will be conducted from the vacant rooms of the Dhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) main office (Nagar Bhaban) from Sunday.

He announced this during a discussion with senior ministry officials on Saturday at his residence on Hare Road in the capital.

The adviser said: “Official activities will not be halted for a single day. No conspiracies aimed at disrupting the ministry’s ongoing people-centric development initiatives or obliterating corruption records from the previous fascist regime will be allowed to succeed.”

He directed all officials to operate with renewed determination to ensure the ministry’s work progresses even more efficiently.

Last Wednesday night, a fire in the Secretariat caused extensive damage to the offices, documents, computers, and furniture of five ministries. Among the affected are two divisions of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives.

The other impacted ministries and divisions include the Road Transport and Highways Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the Post and Telecommunications Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Many files and records were reduced to ashes, while computers and furniture were charred beyond use. The fire also inflicted significant damage to walls and floors.

It was subsequently decided that, as an interim measure, the operations of the affected ministries would be relocated to the offices of their affiliated departments.

For the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives, vacant rooms at the Dhaka South City Corporation’s headquarters were designated for this purpose.
