Nahid: Govt's key focus is to reduce unemployment

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam on Sunday said that the interim government’s key focus is to reduce unemployment in the country through job creation.

“The main goal of the current government is to generate employment opportunities because the mass uprising was centred on this issue,” he said.

Nahid Islam, who is also the adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, made these remarks during a meeting with a Jica delegation led by its chief representative, Ichiguchi Tomohide, at the Posts and Telecommunications Division, according to a ministry press release.

During the meeting, Ichiguchi informed the adviser that Bangladesh has great potential in the IT sector.

However, he noted that there are limited job opportunities in this field, saying: “We want to create new job opportunities in Bangladesh and train 1,000 IT engineers to utilize the country's potential.”

“We welcome any Jica investment aimed at job creation,” Nahid remarked, adding that if there is a specific proposal in this regard, it will be considered by the government.

He also mentioned that the interim government expects increased investment from Japan and Jica.

The Jica chief expressed eagerness to work on agendas such as investment growth, public administration reform, and infrastructure development.

“In this regard, we want to extend our cooperation to Bangladesh by leveraging the experiences of different countries around the world,” he said, noting that Jica is the second-highest investor in Bangladesh.

The adviser further said that the interim government is striving to encourage private sector investment by creating a business-friendly environment and eliminating obstacles.
