Nahid: Sacrifices of anti-discrimination martyrs will not be forgotten

ICT Adviser Md Nahid Islam has emphasized the importance of preserving the memory and honoring the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement, saying that their sacrifices will inspire future struggles for justice.

On Wednesday, the family of Safwan Akhtar Sadyo, a student killed during the anti-discrimination student movement, met with the adviser at the office of the Posts and Telecommunications Department in a courtesy visit.

During the meeting, Nahid Islam said: “Safwan gave his life for the country. His sacrifice will not be in vain. A discrimination-free Bangladesh will emerge in honor of the martyrs of the movement.”

Safwan's father, Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman Liton, became emotional while recounting the details of his son's death, breaking down in tears and creating an emotional atmosphere.

Adviser Nahid Islam consoled him and assured the family of full support.

"The names of all the martyrs and injured in the anti-discrimination movement will be included in the official records. Even a hundred years from now, society will remember the heroes of this revolution as a source of inspiration for social change," Nahid Islam added.

Dr Akhtaruzzaman, while grieving the loss of his son, urged for a new Bangladesh where such tragedies do not repeat.

"We must not go backward. No one else should lose their child to police gunfire like I did," he said.

Safwan’s mother and sister were present at the meeting.

Safwan Akhtar Sadyo, a 10th-grade student at Savar Cantonment School and College, was killed by police gunfire near Savar Police Station on August 5 during the anti-discrimination student movement.
