Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon, who was fatally attacked by assailants while on duty in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar.
"I pray for the peace of his departed soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family. I also wish to convey my sympathies to all my colleagues in the Bangladesh Army," Prof Yunus said in a statement released on Tuesday night.
The media release was signed by the chief adviser’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
Prof Yunus is currently in the United States to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The chief adviser praised Lt Nirjon as a dedicated and talented officer who was a vigilant guardian of the nation's peace, order, and sovereignty.
"His self-sacrifice stands as a testament to the idea of patriotism, which the nation will forever honour," Yunus added.
Lt Nirjon's death occurred while the Bangladesh Army continued its work under the "Aid to Civil Power" initiative, aimed at ensuring public safety.
Prof Yunus emphasized that Nirjon's passing is an irreparable loss, not just for the Army but for the entire nation.
