The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change formed a four-member committee on Wednesday to assess the potential impact of the proposed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Moulvibazar (Phase 1) on biodiversity in the Lathitila forest within the Juri range of Moulvibazar.
The committee is tasked with submitting a report with recommendations on the conservation of the forest’s biodiversity.
The committee will evaluate whether the implementation of the proposed project will have adverse effects on the forest, wildlife and natural biodiversity.
Additionally, it will provide recommendations for the conservation of the forest’s biodiversity in the Juri range. The committee will consult with local stakeholders and is required to submit its report to the ministry by September 19.
Notably, the decision to proceed with this project was made despite objections from wildlife experts and environmentalists. The project was approved in an Ecnec meeting on some conditions on November 9, 2023 and is included in the list of unapproved projects without allocation in the ADP for the fiscal year 2024-25.
