Matiur Rahman granted voluntary retirement amid wealth investigation

Matiur Rahman, commissioner of the Internal Resources Division, has been granted voluntary retirement in line with the civil service law.

The announcement came in a notification issued by the Internal Resources Division dated Wednesday.

It says the retirement came into effect on Monday, without retirement benefits such as post-retirement leave, lump-sum grant and pension, following his application upon completing 25 years of service.

Matiur Rahman recently came into the spotlight after his son from his second marriage attempted to purchase a goat for Tk 15 lakh ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

At that time, he was president of the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.

Following this incident, investigation uncovered his extensive wealth, which includes land, flats, luxurious houses and resorts.

Subsequently, Matiur was reassigned to the IRD of the finance ministry.

He is currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission for possessing undisclosed assets.

Matiur also has substantial investments in the capital market, contributing significantly to his wealth accumulation.
