The Cabinet on Monday gave an in-principle approval to the draft of Personal Data Protection Act 2023 with a provision which states that personal data cannot be used without permission.
The approval came at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain told reporters after the meeting.
"Bangladesh Data Protection Board will be established to ensure that the use of personal data requires the consent of the individual. This board will look after these matters," he said while briefing the media.
The secretary said that there is no obstacle in the constitution to approve law in the cabinet after the polls schedule is announced. It is a part of routine work of government.
He said that in Monday’s meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave instructions to prepare a master plan for proper use of land at the upazila level.
Apart from this, an in-principle approval has also been given to the draft Joyita Foundation Act to create entrepreneurial spirit among women.
