Palak: Government plays pioneering role in ensuring women empowerment

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Friday said the present government is playing a pioneering role in women's empowerment by ensuring their equal rights in society.

"Without ensuring the equal participation of women in the society, a country's development can not be achieved. The government is committed to establishing gender parity," he said while addressing the tri-annual conference of Bangladesh Mohila Awami League of Singra Upazila and Municipal unit at Gol-E-Afroz Government College ground in Dhaka.

Palak said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman empowered women by ensuring reserved seats for women in the parliament.

Bangabandhu created employment opportunities by nationalizing 36,000 primary schools across the country.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina created 60% employment opportunities for women in primary schools. As a result of taking this groundbreaking step, any girl who passed HSC should easily get employment opportunities.

The present government has added the father's name as well as the mother's name in the national identity card. As a result, the dignity of women has increased, he added.

The conference was inaugurated by Safia Khatun, president of Bangladesh Mohila Awami League.
