Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Nazrul Islam has said holidaymakers will experience a much smoother journey this year—compared to previous years—as the government has taken a number of steps ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He said this while talking to reporters after a meeting at the secretariat on Thursday.
Senior officials of the Road Transport and Highways Division, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, and leaders of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association attended the meeting on ensuring a safe journey for holidaymakers – where some steps taken by the government were discussed.
Emerging from the meeting, the secretary said the condition of the highways across the country is much better now – than before.
The government has also asked the CNG filling stations’ owners to keep their stations open-round-the-clock—for seven days before, and five days after, Eid-ul-Fitr.
Normally, CNG stations close between 5pm and 9pm every day.
Additionally, the government has decided to open control rooms which will be operated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) round-the-clock to ease movement of those homeward-bound.
BRTC will also operate a special bus service for those homeward-bound. Drives will be conducted to check ticket prices and monitor the ticket counters, the secretary added.
