The nation will observe a one-minute ‘blackout’ on March 25, marking ‘Genocide Day,’ said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday.
“We’ll observe a symbolic one-minute blackout program on March 25 night from 9:00pm to 9:01pm,” said the Home Minister after emerging from a meeting held at the conference room of the Home ministry with top officials of law enforcement agencies concerning observing 'Genocide Day' on March 25 and Independence Day on March 26.
Information about the program will be delivered to the media.
Additional security measures will be taken at significant monuments, including Savar National Mausoleum, Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Rayerbazar, and Suhrawardy Udyan, he said.
However, vehicles and emergency services will remain outside the purview of the program, said Asaduzzaman.
Special security arrangements will be made for diplomats to go to Savar National Mausoleum.
A march-past program will be held at Bangabandhu National Stadium to observe Independence Day and National Day, the minister added.
"We must ensure that flags are hoisted properly. The size and color to be used for making the flags will be monitored," he said.
The inmates of prisons, hospitals, and orphanages will be provided with enhanced diets marking the day.
Replying to a query about the Chawkbazar fire incident, the Minister said, the probe report will be released within the shortest possible time as it's almost ready.
"All chemical warehouses in Old Dhaka must be removed despite all barriers," he assured.
The government has been observing a one-minute 'blackout' program on the night of March 25, for the third consecutive year, marking 'Genocide Day'.
In 2017, the government officially declared March 25 as 'Genocide Day', marking widespread killing by the Pakistani Army of unarmed Bengalis on the black night of March 25, 1971.
