Indian Air Force (IAF) has handed over a Dakota (DC-3) aircraft to Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) on Monday. The aircraft was used in the 1971 Liberation War. An Indian High Commission press release confirmed this, reports BSS.
Air Marshal SB Deo, Eastern Air Command, Indian Air Force (IAF), formally handed over the Dakota aircraft to the BAF, the release said.
The Dakota aircraft took part in the para-drop operations in Tangail on December 11, 1971 during the Liberation War.
The aircraft has been installed at BAF Museum, Tejgaon on Monday. The Dakota aircraft has special significance for BAF, as BAF began its journey during the 1971 Liberation War with three aircrafts, including the Dakota, offered by India.
The aircraft was flown in from New Delhi in a dismantled state in the IAF's C-17 Globemaster aircraft and then re-assembled by IAF's technical team, led by Wing Commander R Deshpande, with the assistance of BAF.
