US business leaders keen to invest in Bangladesh

Representatives from major US companies at a discussion in New York have expressed their keen interest to invest in Bangladesh, said a Foreign Ministry media release yesterday.

Bangladesh Ambassador to USA Mohammad Ziauddin, representatives from Citigroup, MasterCard International, Ellicott Dredgers, Coca-Cola Co, Fontheim International, American Eagle and Sikorsky Aircraft, among others, attended the luncheon discussion held on Friday.

Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), a prominent think tank founded by US President Dwight Eisenhower in 1955, arranged the event.

Narrating Bangladesh as strategically located and a regional hub, Ambassador Ziauddin spelled out the measures taken by the present government to attract foreign investment.

While sharing the strong economic indicators of Bangladesh, the Ambassador particularly drew attention to the thrust sectors for investments such as power, energy, shipbuilding, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, ICT and telecommunication.

He sought their support for duty- and quota-free access of Bangladesh’s RMG products to the US market.
