'India has no business in Bangladesh affairs'

New Delhi has reiterated its foreign policy of not meddling in the domestic affairs of its neighbours, including Bangladesh.

“You are aware that it is not our policy to intervene in matters which are essentially in the domestic jurisdictions of any of our neighbours. It is always our view that it is for the people and government of Bangladesh to resolve issues themselves,” Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said at a media briefing yesterday.

He was responding to a question on the month-long political violence in Bangladesh, according to a video clip posted on the ministry’s website.

Akbar said the Indian government would not make any judgement about the situation in Bangladesh.

“All we do is, we wish Bangladesh, its government and people all the very best and hope that they resolve their issues themselves. It is not for the government of India to make any judgement for that,” he said.
