Indian Lok Sabha MP and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs Dr Shashi Tharoor said only unity among the states could ensure economic development in South Asia.
He said at a meeting with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury yesterday in her parliament office.
In the brief meeting they talked about issues pertaining to bilateral relations between two neighbouring countries and how to strengthen parliamentary democracy.
Tharoor congratulated Shirin Sharmeen on her being elected as the executive chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). The speaker told Tharoor that the CPA wants to give priority to the agricultural sector in this territory.
In a recent workshop jointly organised by Punjab State Parliament and Greenwich University titled Role of the Parliamentary Agricultural Committee in Chandigar of Punjab in India the speaker had emphasised the same.
Dhaka too recently organised a three-day workshop titled Economic and Financial Challenges for Emerging Economies in South Asia where the speaker stressed the need for macroeconomic stability in South Asia.
The continuation of the economic progress will depend on how quickly and effectively the region can deal with it.
