Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB) is set to hold a three-day Dhaka-Teesta road march from April 17, demanding a proper share of water along the Teesta River from Indian government and protesting against subservient foreign policy of the Awami League-led government.
CPB General Secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed made the announcement while speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in the capital yesterday.
He also said the road march consisting of buses and vehicles will begin from in front of the National Press Club at 3:00pm after holding a rally at the venue.
The marchers will hold roadside rallies at Tongi, Gazipur and would spend the night in Sirajganj on the first day.
On the second day, the marchers will hold a rally at the district town and then march towards Bogra.
After staying the night in Bogra, the road march will head towards Teesta Barrage on April 19 and finally hold its concluding rally at Doani Bazar of Hatirbandha.
At the press conference, SPB General Secretary Khalequzzaman said the Indian government had controlled the flow of water of Teesta, making barrage in the upper basin of the river unilaterally.
Democratic Left Alliance, a coalition of seven left-leaning political parties, will also hold a three-day Dhaka-Teesta road march from April 8.
