UAE halts execution of 3 Bangladeshis

The government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended the execution of three Bangladeshis for murder charges to pave way for a negotiation.

The execution of Mohammed Nayeb Ali, Kamrul Islam and Atique Hossain was scheduled for January 22, 2014 in Sharjah, BSS reported quoting a foreign ministry statement.

Bangladesh ambassador to UAE, Muhammad Imran, said the execution has been halted for indefinite period in response to the efforts of Bangladesh for a negotiation.

“We sought time to look for the blood heirs of the victims and negotiate with them for the convicts clemency in line with Shariah law,” he said.

The highest authorities of the UAE issued a royal decree for the trio's execution over charges of killing an unidentified foreign national, also a worker.
