Bangladesh, UK express satisfaction over bilateral ties as Kobir meets Miliband

Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir met with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Ed Miliband on Monday on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in St John's, Antigua and Barbuda.

During the meeting, both ministers expressed satisfaction over the growing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK, marked by robust exports of Bangladeshi goods to the UK market and British investment in Bangladesh.

They also discussed Bangladesh's agreement to purchase Airbus aircraft for its national flag carrier, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two ministers agreed to extend reciprocal support in multilateral forums on various issues, including climate change, safe, orderly and regular migration, and humanitarian assistance.

The UK Foreign Secretary thanked Bangladesh for hosting around one million forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDMNs) and assured continued British humanitarian support for the Rohingyas.

During the meeting, the Acting Foreign Minister also conveyed an invitation from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to his British counterpart to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
