Bangladeshi mountaineer and Everest summiteer Ikramul Hasan Shakil is set to embark on a new high-altitude challenge as he prepares to attempt the summit of Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Russia and Europe, standing at 5,642 meters above sea level in the Caucasus Mountains.
Shakil is scheduled to leave Dhaka on September 19 for the expedition, which will last approximately 15 days.
As part of the expedition, Shakil will carry the national flag of Bangladesh and raise it at the summit of Mount Elbrus, symbolizing the friendship between the peoples of Bangladesh and Russia.
At a press conference and flag handover ceremony held at the Russian House in Dhaka on Thursday, Shakil received the national flag of Bangladesh for the expedition.
Beyond the challenge of high-altitude mountaineering, the expedition aims to promote friendship between Bangladesh and Russia through a shared spirit of adventure, exploration and discovery.
The raising of the Bangladeshi national flag on Mount Elbrus will also highlight the ties and mutual respect between the two countries.
The expedition is jointly organized by the Russian House in Dhaka and the Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC).
