The Bangladesh Embassy in Bucharest has urged Bangladeshi citizens living in Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Moldova to exercise caution and responsibility when using online platforms, including social media.
The embassy issued the advisory in a public awareness notice on Monday night.
The notice said that while social media is an important means of communication and information exchange, careless posts, comments, photos or videos can lead to legal complications.
Expatriates have been urged to exercise particular caution when publishing or sharing content related to religion, politics, national security, public order and other sensitive issues.
The embassy advised Bangladeshis to verify the authenticity of information before sharing any post or content.
It also urged them to refrain from posting anything that violates the laws of their host country or is provocative, threatening, discriminatory or encourages violence or extremism.
The embassy called on Bangladeshis living abroad to respect the laws, social values and local sensitivities of their respective countries.
It said responsible and moderate use of online platforms would help protect expatriates from legal complications while upholding Bangladesh’s image and dignity abroad.
