Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members on Sunday foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push three people, including two women, into Bangladesh through the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga.
According to a BGB press release, the incident occurred around 3:10am near border pillar No-70/2-S in the Madhabkhali area under Jibannagar upazila.
Members of the BSF under its 32 Battalion allegedly attempted to push the three people into Bangladesh through the border.
A patrol team of the Madhabkhali Border Outpost (BOP) under BGB’s Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) spotted them before they could enter Bangladesh and prevented them from crossing the zero line.
Following the BGB’s firm stance, the three people moved about 40 yards inside Indian territory from the zero line. They later returned to the Indian barbed-wire fence around 5:20am.
Around 7:55am, BSF personnel from the Meteri Camp opened a gate near border pillar No-68/5-S and took the three people back into Indian territory, the BGB said.
Its prompt and firm action successfully prevented the push-in attempt, the paramilitary force said, adding that it continues to maintain a high level of vigilance and professionalism to protect the border, prevent illegal entry and push-ins, and maintain peace and order in border areas.
