The United States has expressed strong confidence in the leadership of Bangladesh's elected Prime Minister, praising the country's return to stability and democratic progress, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Spokesperson and Adviser Mahdi Amin said on Saturday.
He made the remarks while briefing reporters at the Prime Minister's Office following a meeting between visiting US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and US ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
"The United States said Bangladesh has regained stability under the Prime Minister's leadership and is moving forward on a strong democratic path," Mahdi Amin said. "It also commended the policies the Prime Minister has pursued over the past five months."
He said the meeting also focused on further strengthening the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between Bangladesh and the United States through deeper economic engagement.
According to Mahdi Amin, the two sides discussed expanding US investment, increasing bilateral trade, creating more employment through American companies operating in Bangladesh and exploring policy support the government could provide to facilitate greater investment.
The discussions also covered ways to boost exports and imports between the two countries, he added.
Mahdi Amin announced that around 45 senior executives and business leaders from nearly 25 leading US companies are expected to visit Bangladesh by the end of next week, describing the visit as an important step towards increasing American investment in the country.
During the visit, the delegation will hold a series of meetings with officials from key ministries and government agencies, while a separate meeting with the Prime Minister is also scheduled, he said.
Describing the talks as cordial and constructive, Mahdi Amin said the discussions were expected to add a new dimension to Bangladesh-US relations.
"We hope to expand trade with the United States, attract greater American investment and create more employment opportunities in Bangladesh," he said.
