Mahdi Amin: PM's China visit further strengthens historic ties

Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin on Friday said the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit has further strengthened the historic relationship between Bangladesh and China, adding that Beijing has reached a consensus on working jointly with Bangladesh.

He made the remarks while briefing reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned home on Friday night following his official visits to Malaysia and China.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, Deputy Press Secretaries Zahidul Islam Rony, Sujan Mahmud and Shahadat Swadhin, and Assistant Press Secretary KM Nazmul Haque Khan were present at the briefing.

Mahdi Amin said the prime minister's visits to Malaysia and China resulted in positive progress in expanding bilateral relations and trade.

"Discussions were held on how to advance Bangladesh's national interests and expand trade with Malaysia and China. China has reached a consensus on working jointly with the Prime Minister," he said.

Referring to the Chinese president's proposal on a corridor, the adviser said the proposal is being viewed positively as it is important for business and investment.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left for Malaysia on a state visit on June 21. After attending various engagements there, he flew to Dalian, China, on a special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 5pm on June 22.

During his visit to China, he attended several important engagements, including a meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister. On Friday morning, he held talks with the Chinese President in Beijing.

The Prime Minister left Beijing at 3pm Bangladesh time aboard a China Southern Airlines flight, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:45pm on Friday.

He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and other members of the delegation.

The visits to Malaysia and China marked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's first overseas tour since assuming office as head of government on February 17 following his party's landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary election.
