President Abdul Hamid Monday urged Singapore to set up a training institute in Bangladesh under joint collaboration for developing skilled workforce especially in the construction, hospitality and service sectors.
“If the training institute is set up in Bangladesh, Singapore can take skilled manpower directly from here especially for its demanding construction sector,” he said when Singaporean High Commissioner in Dhaka Chan Heng Wing paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban, reports UNB.
The Singaporean envoy appreciated the president’s idea of establishing a training institute for developing human resource in Bangladesh under the joint collaboration. President Abdul Hamid underscored the need for concerted efforts to increase Bangladesh’s export to Singapore with a view to improving the balance of trade.
Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Singapore in 2010 was more than two billion US dollar of which Bangladesh’s export to Singapore was only 80 million US dollar. Praising the Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical sector, Chan Heng Wing told the President that he has visited some of the international standard pharmaceutical factories in the country.
