Bangladesh has sought US support to address its energy security challenges and explore long-term cooperation during a meeting between Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright in Washington, DC, on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Wright congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on winning the election and expressed hope for stronger bilateral ties between the two countries.
Khalilur said Bangladesh was facing energy-related challenges due to supply chain disruptions and sought US assistance to ensure the country’s energy security.
Wright acknowledged the challenges and said he would work with relevant US government departments to consider Bangladesh’s request. He added that the United States would support Bangladesh in ensuring energy security during this period.
The two sides also discussed long-term cooperation on safe energy solutions for Bangladesh and the possibility of increasing purchases of US energy products.
Assistant Secretary for Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation Audrey Robertson and other Department of Energy officials attended the meeting.
On Bangladesh’s side, Ambassador to the United States Tareq Md Ariful Islam, Deputy Chief of Mission DM Salahuddin Mahmud, and Economic Minister Dr Md Fazle Rabbi were present.
