Bangladeshis detained in Saudi Arabia for holding unauthorized meetings

Bangladeshi citizens are being detained in Saudi Arabia for holding meetings and gatherings without prior permission.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh has issued a notice informing this and warning expatriate Bangladeshis.

The notice states that recently, in various areas of Saudi Arabia, unauthorized meetings and gatherings are being organized under the banner of different organizations in rented halls, hotels, restaurants, or private homes, ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.

Additionally, some Bangladeshis have reportedly been detained by local law enforcement for participating in organized campaigning and for spreading criminal or misleading information on social media.

The notice further urges expatriate Bangladeshis to refrain from organizing any meetings or gatherings, participating in organized campaigning, or sharing any criminal or misleading information on social media without proper permission from the Saudi authorities.

It also calls on them to strictly follow Saudi laws and regulations.
