Hotlines launched to assist Bangladeshis in Iran as tensions escalate

In light of the ongoing unrest in Iran, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) have launched dedicated hotline numbers to assist Bangladeshi nationals residing in the country and their families in Bangladesh seeking updates on their well-being.

A press release issued by MoFA on Monday said a coordinated communication system has been set up to ensure timely support for Bangladeshi citizens affected by the current situation.

Two contact numbers have been designated by the embassy in Tehran to facilitate urgent communication:

  • +989908577368

  • +989122065745

Additionally, the ministry has set up a direct line for assistance:

  • +8801712012847

The ministry also noted that these lines are accessible via WhatsApp, allowing for quick and flexible communication, particularly in emergency cases.

Officials have urged Bangladeshi nationals in Iran and concerned family members in Bangladesh to use these numbers for immediate updates and coordination in case of any emergencies.

Notably, Iran launched missiles at Israeli cities on Monday after Israeli strikes deep inside the Islamic republic, raising Israel's death toll by 11 on day four of an escalating air war.

After decades of enmity and a prolonged shadow war, Israel on Friday launched a surprise aerial campaign targeting sites across Iran, saying the attacks aimed to prevent its arch-foe from acquiring atomic weapons -- a charge Tehran denies.

Israel's strikes have so far killed at least 224 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians, according to Iranian authorities.

In retaliation, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said it had “successfully” struck Israel with a salvo of missiles and warned of “effective, targeted and more devastating operations” to come.
