After being suspended due to security concerns, visa and consular services at the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, Tripura, India, are set to resume.
The services will be available from Wednesday, as announced by the authorities.
The operations were halted last December when supporters of several Hindu nationalist organizations, including the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, stormed the premises of the Assistant High Commission, vandalized property, and desecrated the national flag of Bangladesh.
Following the attack and growing security concerns, Bangladesh temporarily suspended all visa and consular services at the mission until further notice.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka summoned the Indian High commissioner, Pranay Verma, to express strong protest over the incident and handed over a formal diplomatic note of objection.
Bangladesh maintains its High Commission in New Delhi, along with Deputy or Assistant High Commissions in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, and Agartala.
The Assistant High Commission in Agartala provides a range of consular services, including visa issuance, travel permits for Bangladeshis in need, and legal assistance.
Foreign ministry officials have said that before the suspension, the mission in Agartala processed approximately 250 to 300 visas daily for Indian nationals.
