Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said Dhaka is awaiting Malaysia’s roadmap to address the plight of Bangladeshi workers who missed the May 31 entry deadline this year.
He made the statement during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Malaysian high commissioner to Bangladesh, Mohd Shuhada Othman, at the foreign ministry, according to a press release.
The discussion followed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s October 5 visit to Dhaka, where he said Malaysia would consider allowing entry for 18,000 Bangladeshi workers affected by the deadline.
During the meeting, the foreign adviser and the high commissioner explored areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, manpower, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, and renewable energy.
Both sides emphasized fostering economic engagement and strengthening bilateral ties.
The high commissioner also highlighted the prospects of introducing newly manufactured Malaysian cars to the Bangladeshi market, signalling potential collaboration in the automotive sector.
Additionally, the adviser congratulated Malaysia on their upcoming Asean chairmanship in January 2025, expressing confidence in their leadership.
Touhid assured the high commissioner of full support during his tenure in Bangladesh and wished him a productive and successful diplomatic mission.
