Chief Prosecutor of the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Ahmed Khan will visit Bangladesh from November 25-28.
During his visit, foreign ministry’s spokesperson Toufiq Hasan on Thursday at the weekly briefing said Karim Khan will meet with Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin and will also visit the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.
He said the finalization of the proposed Witness Protection Protocol by the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is underway.
Views have been sought from various ministries and agencies regarding this matter, he said.
Earlier, the ICC Chief Prosecutor met with Dr Yunus on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters on Sep 26.
The discussion focused on the ongoing ICC investigation into the deportation of Rohingyas, which began in 2019.
Dr Yunus, however, inquired about the process for filing a crime against humanity case at the ICC concerning the July-August uprising in Bangladesh.
In response, Khan assured him that Bangladesh could file a complaint at the Hague-based court, but emphasized that there are specific legal procedures that must be followed for such cases.
