Russia has announced supplying 30,000 tons Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer to Bangladesh free of cost as part of friendship and deep sincerity between the two countries.
Russian second largest ammonia and nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing company Uralchem group's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dmitry Konyaev in a letter informed the agriculture ministry, an official release said today.
Uralchem works for ensuring global food security.
Acting ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Ekaterina Semenova formally handed over the letter to Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury here on Wednesday.
The fertilizer will be supplied free of cost under the World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations, the release added.
In 2013, Uralkali PJSC, a Russia-based one of the world's leading producers and exporters of potash fertilizer, also supplied one million tons of MoP fertilizer under government to government contract to Bangladesh.
