Envoy: Libya keen to hire more Bangladeshi workers

Libya is looking to hire more manpower from Bangladesh, including doctors and engineers, to aid in the country's development and has invited Bangladeshi students to enrol in its top universities.

Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdulmutalib SM Suliman expressed the country’s interest during a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at the latter's office in Tejgaon on Sunday.

Suliman acknowledged the contribution of the Bangladeshi workforce to Libyan society, particularly noting their significant role in the agricultural sector.

He also said that some Bangladeshi doctors working in Libya are facing salary issues but expressed hope that these would be resolved soon, following the ongoing reforms in the country.

Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh and Libya could work together to combat illegal migration and human trafficking.

“We do not support human trafficking. Many people are suffering because of it. We should work together to stop this,” he said.

Yunus also urged the ambassador to focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries to enhance trade and investment.

Additionally, he inquired whether Bangladesh could explore the possibility of importing oil from Libya for mutual benefit.

Ambassador Suliman highlighted the importance of resuming air connectivity between the two countries and requested cooperation from Bangladeshi authorities to facilitate this.
