52 more Bangladeshis return from Lebanon

With assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 52 more Bangladeshi have been brought back from war-torn Lebanon.

They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11pm on Thursday on an Emirates flight via Dubai.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 268 stranded Bangladeshi nationals willing to return voluntarily have been repatriated so far, all at government expense.

On previous flights, 54 people returned on October 21, 96 on October 23 across two flights, 30 on Monday, and 36 on Tuesday.

Ministry officials and IOM representatives welcomed the returnees at the airport.

IOM provided each returnee with Tk5,000, food supplies, and basic medical assistance.

Amid the ongoing conflict in Lebanon, the government has committed to bearing the full cost of repatriating any Bangladeshis wishing to return.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut is managing this process.

In a statement, the embassy said that arrangements are in place to process applications from Bangladeshi expatriates who wish to return and have the necessary travel documents, including passports and residence permits.

The embassy is managing all related formalities to bring them back.

Over the past year, Israel and Lebanon have engaged in conflicts, with Israeli aggression in Lebanon claiming over 2,500 lives so far.
