Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin will go to Russia to attend the BRICS summit from October 22-24.
The visit comes on the heels of his maiden US trip from October 7-14 when he met with senior State Department officials and discussed issues including economic collaboration, counterterrorism efforts, democratic reforms and responses to the Rohingya crisis.
The foreign secretary will leave Dhaka for Kazan on Tuesday morning, according to his itinerary. Details of his meetings during the visit could not be known.
A senior official at the foreign ministry told Dhaka Tribune that the foreign secretary would lead the Bangladesh delegation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will host the first-ever summit of BRICS+ in the Tatarstan city of Kazan.
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are the founding members of BRICS.
They will formally welcome into their fold five new members – Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran.
Russia has also invited more than two dozen other countries that have applied for membership in this expanding grouping.
Bangladesh also showed interest in becoming a member of BRICS last year.
