A total of 481 tons of ilish have been exported to India in seven consignments through Benapole Land Port.
Out of the 2,420 tons of ilish announced by the Bangladesh government, 481 tons were exported to India in the last 10 days from September 26 to October 9 through Benapole alone.
Through Benapole port, 10 exporting companies send this ilish shipment to Petrapole port in India in 157 trucks.
The export price for ilish is set at $10 per kg, equivalent to approximately Tk1,180.
On Thursday, ilish weighing less than a kilogram was selling for Tk1,300 per kg in local markets, while larger sizes were priced between Tk1,800 and Tk2,000 per kg. In contrast, the same sizes are being exported to India at prices ranging Tk600–800 lower than domestic rates.
Aswadul, an officer from the Fish Inspection and Quality Control Centre of the Department of Fisheries at the Benapole land port, said the export circular had been issued a few years ago. He suggested there might be room to adjust the export price in line with the domestic market.
Masudur Rahman, revenue officer at the Benapole Checkpost Cargo Branch, confirmed that 22 tons of ilish were exported to India on Wednesday night using seven trucks. This brought the total to 481 tons of ilish exported in the last 10 days.
