Philippines celebrates 126th Independence Day with grand festivities in Dhaka

The Philippines Embassy in Bangladesh celebrated the 126th Philippines Independence Day with two major events at the Dhaka Regency Hotel, highlighting the country's cultural heritage and culinary traditions while strengthening diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.

The festivities began with a flag-raising ceremony on Wednesday, where Ambassador Leo Tito L Ausan delivered a message from the Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary.

That evening, a diplomatic reception featured speeches, national anthems, and cultural performances, emphasizing the future of Philippine-Bangladesh relations, including upcoming direct flights between their capitals. 

Jahangir Kabir Nanok, minister for Textiles and Jute, was present as the chief guest.

On Thursday, a Filipino Culinary Night showcased southern Philippines delicacies prepared by Chef Datu Shariff Pendatun, with traditional dishes and regional specialities enjoyed by attendees. 

The embassy in a statement also expressed gratitude to all participants for making the celebration memorable. 

Independence Day is a national holiday in the Philippines observed annually on June 12, commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.

The celebration typically includes ceremonies, parades, and various cultural events that honour the country's history and heritage.
