FM: No Bangladeshi students severely injured in Kyrgystan

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said that they had expressed deep concerns over the mob violence on Friday night in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, and that no Bangladeshi students were severely injured.

He said the Bangladesh ambassador in Uzbekistan, accredited to Kyrgyz, has been asked to go to the place immediately.

The minister was speaking at the 45th founding anniversary celebration of the Overseas Correspondence Association Bangladesh (OCAB) at the Jatiya Press Club.

“We have already conveyed our concerns to Kyrgyzstan. Our students also came under attack but no one was severely injured,” he said

The foreign ministry, meanwhile, said in a statement that the government of Bangladesh expresses deep concerns over the mob incident that happened on the night of Friday in Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek.

"We are closely monitoring the situation through our Embassy in Uzbekistan, concurrently accredited to Kyrgyz Republic. The embassy is in constant communication with our students who are currently studying in Kyrgyz Republic, as well as with the Kyrgyz government officials."

"There are no reports of any serious injury or casualty among Bangladeshi students so far. The embassy already shared an emergency contact number in its official Facebook page to get in touch with them for any issues regarding this matter. Through the embassy, the government is coordinating with the relevant authorities of Kyrgyz Republic, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Internal Affairs to ensure the safety and security of the students," read the statement.

"We are closely and constantly monitoring the developments. We have asked our ambassador stationed in Tashkent to visit Bishkek soon to inquire about the wellbeing of the Bangladeshi students."
