Egyptian ambassador meets FM, discusses bilateral ties

Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy has met Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and congratulated him on his new role.

They discussed areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the jute sector, on Thursday.

The two sides also had underscored the importance of more engagement to take their relations to a new height, the foreign ministry said.

The minister and the ambassador emphasized high-level visits from both sides and the holding of the second round of foreign office consultations, scheduled to be held in Cairo, as soon as possible.

Hasan Mahmud thanked the Egyptian government for its timely support in facilitating the delivery of three consignments of humanitarian assistance from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the distressed Palestine people in Gaza.

In addition, he also requested Egypt, as a member of both the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League, to raise a strong voice to achieve a ceasefire to avoid further civilian casualties in Gaza, especially women and children.
